Thanks Ben. The idea of lecture was based upon a few different lectures/seminars I attended back in the day. One was on American history in general, the other was on the idea of the 'frontier' and the role it had in forming the American imagination and thus a lot of the literature that was written through the 19th and early 20th centuries especially. And 'eldritch' is a truly great word isn't it!! x
